The Author Behind the Words
A passionate fiction writer and dedicated educator based outside the charming and picturesque Charlottesville, Virginia. She is represented by Jenna Satterwaite at Storm Literary Agency.
A graduate of Christopher Newport University in 2019, Cassidy's literary journey led her to the Pacific Northwest, where she embraced diverse opportunities in the literary and media world. From 2020 to 2022, she served as a writer assistant to the esteemed Newbery Prize Medalist, Kwame Alexander, immersing herself in the craft under the guidance of a master storyteller.
Throughout her career, Cassidy's talents extended beyond the written word. As an associate producer on an NPR segment and a scriptwriter for the web series "Wordplay" on ABC Mouse, she honed her skills in bringing stories to life through different mediums.
In 2023, Cassidy's passion for education took her to the forefront of nurturing young minds. Hired as a Writer-In-Schools (WITS) Teacher at Seattle Arts and Lecture, she embarked on a rewarding journey to various public schools across Seattle. Collaborating with teachers, she sought to rekindle the joy of reading and creative writing in students' hearts.
In addition to her work with WITS, Cassidy also served as an inspiring instructor at Hugo House, fostering creativity and nurturing the next generation of writers. Her impact on the literary community was further recognized when she was honored as a Hugo House Writing Fellow for a year.
Cassidy also initiated a transformative writing group called "Writing Black @ The House." This inclusive haven for Black writers embraces four fundamental goals: to inspire, to create, to empower, and to connect. Welcoming writers of all levels, from novices to seasoned experts, this nurturing space provides a safe environment for fostering creativity and forging meaningful connections within the writing community.
Amidst her many endeavors, Cassidy finds immense joy and honor in co-authoring the graphic novel series "Brainstormerz" alongside Kwame Alexander, with art by Rashad Doucet. This captivating series follows three friends as they embark on wacky adventures, relying on their creative thinking to overcome challenges.
